It’s Not a Big Deal Until It Is

I’ve known that I’ve had ADHD for a long time, but I never really put much thought into it.

I didn’t really have any major issues in school that pointed to a lack of focus. I was and am truly horrible at math, but I’m the creative type so nobody was particularly surprised about that. Homework was boring as hell, but homework’s boring for everyone.

When I started working, I didn’t really see the evidence of my ADHD either — I was, for a while, either working food service or retail, which means you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off all day, so there’s no room for wandering minds. The two years I spent guarding at the museum were perfect for ADHD in a different way — I could genuinely do my job while completely checked out mentally since most of my job was just people watching.
